400 Central Tower Begins Excavating Site and Prepares to Drill First Foundation Pilings in Downtown St. Petersburg

Heavy equipment crews on site are presently removing legacy structures and preparing the site for foundation work

(ST. PETERSBURG – April 26, 2022) – Amid strong sales of luxury condominiums at The Residences at 400 Central, construction crews have begun clearing the site with heavy equipment – preparing it for the drilling of foundation piles for the 46-story, luxury condominium tower.

400 Central is anticipated to be the tallest residential building on Florida’s Gulf coast – creating a new neighborhood in the heart St. Petersburg, with shops, restaurants and a rooftop observatory with views from Tampa Bay to the Gulf of Mexico.

“We are thrilled with the progress on site,” said John Catsimatidis Sr., founder of Red Apple Real Estate and principal of the development company sponsoring The Residences at 400 Central. “The response to this tower has been tremendous, and we are excited to move forward with the project.”

A state-of-the-art sales gallery across from the site at 465 Central Avenue was established by Red Apple and Michael Saunders & Company this past October and the process of converting initial reservations to contracts has been completed. Sales of the luxury condominiums are ongoing.

Construction crews have re-routed underground utility lines that had run under site; and are presently removing underground foundation remnants from prior structures as well as the concrete alleyway that bisected the site.

Infrastructure work on First Avenue North is expected to start in early May and last two to three weeks.  A construction fence is also expected to arise around the perimeter during this time period.

The current phase of the work is required to accommodate the insertion of 88 steel-reinforced concrete foundation pilings – some of which will span six feet in diameter and reach depths of one hundred and eighty feet.

The Residences at 400 Central will soar 515 feet above downtown St. Petersburg’s vibrant Central Avenue, capturing panoramic views from Tampa Bay to the Gulf of Mexico. This world-class residential tower will be full-service and the first of its kind in St. Petersburg to include a dedicated lifestyle coordinator who will activate the amenities and engage the community.

The 301 condominium homes will consist of one-to-four-bedroom floorplans as well as a selection of custom penthouse homes. Residents of 400 Central will have access to more than 35,000 square feet of modern, private indoor and outdoor amenities.
